Livelihood projects poured into Yolanda-hit LGUs in north Cebu
THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7), through its Sustainable Livelihood Program, has poured over P154-million worth of livelihood projects to supertyphoon Yolanda survivors in northern Cebu.
“As part of the recovery and rehabilitation efforts of the national government, we were able to implement various livelihood projects to Yolanda-affected local government units (LGUs) in northern Cebu,” DSWD-7 Director Mercedita Jabagat said.
These livelihood projects are Cash for Building Livelihood Asset (CBLA) and Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG).
The CBLA is a capacity building strategy to increase the employability chances of the beneficiaries and increase natural resource building to be used for livelihood.
The CBLA project supports the establishment of micro-enterprise development and employment generation such as jobs dealing with mangrove rehabilitation and construction of communal gardens, communal pigpens, sugar mill (mascuvado) and small fishing boats.
On the other hand, the LAG project provides seed capital funds to aspiring entrepreneurs through bigasan ng barangay, farming and trading, hog production, general merchandise and basic hardware supply and skills training for swine fattening with starter kits. A total of 21,462 Yolanda survivors have benefited from the two livelihood projects.
