141 Cops face reassignment

MORE than a hundred policemen from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) with relatives running for elective positions next year will be transferred to another post.

“We make it a point that they will not be assigned in an area where they may influence the electoral process or to the point that their neutrality will be questioned,” said Chief Supt. Prudencio Bañas, regional director of PRO-7.

This affects police officers who have relative within the fourth degree running for office in the area he or she is assigned.

In the initial list, 141 policemen will be reassigned, said Bañas.

“The presumption here is that we (police officers) are all professionals. Our only participation is to vote, and we will not be campaigning. If there are complaints filed against a certain police officer, he or she knows that this might be a basis for dismissal from service,” said Bañas.
