Man jailed for arson, holding two boys hostage
A 21-year-old man was detained after he burned the house of his aunt after a heated argument and held hostage two minors past 2 p.m. in sitio East Binabag in barangay Tayud in Consolacion town.
Neighbors said suspect Jelo Rey Ramos, who is a known drug users in their area, is mentally unstable and would often go wild.
Ramos was seen fleeing from the burning house of his aunt, Aida Sanchez, about 2 p.m.The fire also burned at least four nearby houses.
After neighbors reported the fire incident to Tayud barangay tanods, Ramos held hostage two boys aged 5 and 7 whom he met along the way.
He held the boys at knife-point but one of them, the 7-years-old, managed to escape.
Responding policemen negotiated with Ramos and managed to grab the knife from his possession.
His 5-year-old victim, who sustain cuts on his chest and arm, was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Ramos was detained while police prepare the filing of charges against him.
