“Giving is an expression of gratitude for our blessings”

THE COFFEE Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL) or simply “The Coffee Bean” has been raising the bar of enjoyment and satisfaction of coffee and tea since 1963.

Its American founder Herbert Hyman pioneered the specialty coffee movement and established the company as the place for extraordinary quality and warm customer service.

Aside from its hand-roasted coffee beans and hand-blended teas, CBTL is known for its original ice blended coffee and tea drinks, a predecessor of Starbucks’ Frapuccino. Found in 27 countries, The Coffee Bean has seven outlets in Cebu. The first CBTL in Cebu opened in IT Park in 2007.

To usher in the merriest of seasons, two special holiday flavors have been created.  Each drink comes in two variations: an iced drink and a warm latte.

The Toffee Nut is a buttery caramelized sugar with a hint of nut paired with the richness of espresso and a sprinkle of toffee bits, while the Winter Dream Team is a drink of rooibos and black tea blended with sweet spices and hints of vanilla.

With the holidays fast approaching, CBTL in Ayala Terraces owned by Allen Tan gathered media friends for the release of the new edition of “The Giving Journal.”

Not your ordinary planner, it is designed to inspire the owner  to pursue his or her passions and find meaning and fulfillment in everyday moments,  at the same time providing opportunities to give back by helping others.

Leafing through the pages, there are inspirational posts. The Giving Journal and the Brew Your Best Year website are meant to bring out the best in coffee drinkers.

True to the tradition of giving back to the community, CBTL has partnered with the Real Life Foundation as beneficiary by supporting the educational needs of the less fortunate.

This endeavor was started by Dr. Joseph “Joey” Castro in  2003.

The foundation was incorporated in 2007 where a youthful and dynamic Walden Chu, President & CEO of CBTL Holdings Group, sits in the  Board as a trustee.

The foundation is passionate about providing a better future for underprivileged Filipinos by giving them access to good education and transforming communities through community service. Since 2011, CBTL has sponsored 38 university scholars, 13 of whom have graduated.

Thus, for every flavorful cup we enjoy in CBTL, we are actually giving back to community. Start collecting 12 stamps to own The Giving Journal (1 original iced-blended, 1 tea latte, 1 holiday drink, 1 coffee/espresso-based beverage and 8 drinks of your choice).

The journal can be redeemed until Jan. 10, 2016.

Drink up and brew your best year yet!
