Cebuano pair wins doubles title

TENNIS sensation Janji Soquino vented his frustrations in the men’s doubles competition as he joined forces with fellow Cebuano Amiel Aya-ay to annihilate the pair of Karl Mark Gayo and McLean Barraquias, 6-2, 6-0, in the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open men’s double finals yesterday in Bacolod City.

Earlier in the day, Soquino suffered a heartbreaking defeat against John Altiche, 4-6, 6-2, 2-1(RET), in the semifinal round of the men’s singles event.

However, Soquino, along with his doubles partner Aya-ay, showed no mercy in the men’s doubles finals, winning the opening set 6-2 before finishing off the game in the second set with a 6-0 beating of Gayo and Barraquias.

With the finals victory, Soquino and Aya-ay advanced to the National Finals, where a trip to Paris, France to watch the 2016 French Open is at stake.
