CEBUANA Danika Gendrauli and her partner, Norie Diaz, of Philippines Team B gave it their best shot but faltered, falling to the tandem of Bruna Figueiredo and Mimi Ameral of Brazil in the Spike for Peace International Beach Volleyball tournament late Monday evening at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

The loss was the team’s third in a row in Pool C, thus eliminating them from contention for the title of this prestigious international competition that pits the best women’s beach volleyball teams from all over the world. Earlier in the day, Philippines-B also got bested by Akiko Hasegawa and Ayumi Kasuno of Japan, 16-21, 11-21.

In spite of the setbacks, Gendrauli cherished the rare opportunity to go up against top-caliber talent from all over the world.

“We’re happy we joined this tournament. This gives us additional experience. It’s not all the time we are able to play in international leagues because of the politics in volleyball,”  Gendrauli said.
