DUMANJUG Vice Mayor Efren Gica posted a P40,000 bail for malversation charges filed against him at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) last Tuesday.

Presiding Judge Leopoldo Cañete of RTC Branch 60 in Barili signed his release order.

Vice Mayor Gica told Cebu Daily News that he went to court unaccompanied to post bail at 1 p.m. last Tuesday.

The Ombudsman earlier indicted Gica for failing to return on time a government-owned MacBook worth P52,640.

Last year Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia asked the Ombudsman to investigate Gica on allegations of malversation of property.

“I am disappointed at how the Ombudsman investigated the matter. But now that it’s with the RTC, I am ready to face the charges,” Gica said.

He said his arraignment is scheduled on Dec. 14.
