Science High, USJ-R word wizards win titles

WORD WIZARDS from the Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS) and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) won titles in the 2nd Roger Abella Memorial Open Scrabble Tournament last Saturday at the Robinsons Place Fuente.

CCHSHS topped the secondary division with Lawrence Dave Candia finishing on top , pocketing the P3,000 purse. Teammates Lear Jet Dela Cruz and Joeje Aika Blanes were runners-up, winning P2,000 and P 1,000, respectively.

USJ-R, meanwhile, ruled the elementary division led by champion Anne Daniela Rallos. Her runners up were teammates Chairylle Jasmine Bucao and Johnspeed Eslao.

In the professional category, Renante dela Cerna emerged victorious to take home the P4,000 top purse. Dartspeed Eslao and Joel Toroy finished first and second, respectively.

In related news, Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco said he is reaching out to the government to include scrabble in the Palarong Pambansa and Batang Pinoy games.
