EXPECT rain in the next few days due to the low pressure area (LPA) that is seen to affect Eastern and Central Visayas, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said yesterday.
Pagasa Mactan weather specialist Romeo Aguirre said Cebu and Central Visayas can expect sunny skies today with Nona’s exit from the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
But there’s an incoming LPA located at 1,645 kms east southeast of Mindanao and it is moving toward a northwest direction, or going to the Eastern Visayas area.
The LPA may enter the Philippines tomorrow evening or Friday morning, Aguirre said. Though it has a lower chance of becoming a tropical depression, Aguirre said in the event that it will develop into a tropical depression or storm, it will be named Onyok.
Aguirre said the LPA can bring rain in Cebu and Central Visayas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, more than 300 sea passengers are still stranded in Cebu while a flight bound for El Nido, Palawan was also canceled due to typhoon Nona yesterday.
Air Swift T6 337, which was supposed to depart at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, was canceled due to bad weather in Palawan area.
Merc Bahande of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Operations Control Center said flights for Tacloban resumed to its normal operation after these were canceled on Monday.
Agapito Bibat, Philippine Coast Guard-Cebu Station commander, said 363 passengers remained stranded after MV St. Leo The Great of 2Go was grounded and barred to sail for Manila since Sunday. Metro Manila and Northern Palawan remained under signal number 1 based on the 5 p.m. (Tuesday) weather bulletin from Pagasa.
