THE volley belles of San Sebastian leaned on yet another fantastic performance from Cebuana standout Gretchel Soltones to beat St. Benilde, -20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, and complete a sweep of the elimination round of the 91st NCAA women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Soltones, a budding superstar on the amateur scene and a proud product of Catmon, finished with 32 hits – 24 on kills, six on services aces and two on blocks – as the Lady Stags completed a nine-game sweep of the elims to head straight to the finals where they will enjoy a thrice-to-beat edge.

Soltones and the rest of San Sebastian now await their finals foe, which will come from defending champion Arellano U (8-1), Perpetual Help (7-2) and St. Benilde (6-3).

The Lady Altas, who smothered the Letran Lady Knights, 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, earlier in the day, will play the Lady Blazers in a knockout duel on Tuesday. The winner will face the Lady Chiefs in another do-or-die contest for the right to face the thrice-to-beat Lady Stags for the championship.
