ACTING Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has asked Komjyokai Aikijutsu Master Sensei Dhong Reynaldo to help equip the barangay tanods with self-defense skills.

Master Reynaldo will conduct a training-workshop on the basics of martial arts for around 1,500 barangay tanods from the city’s 80 barangays.

The training will include stress management and values formation in order to control their emotions when responding to crime incidents.

“The training will equip them with measures on how to react to crime, and will make them professional individuals,” Labella said.

Master Reynaldo will be assisted by his four apprentices.

Labella said the trainees will be divided into four clusters, with more than 300 tanods in each cluster.

The tanods will undergo four training sessions. Each session will run for six hours.

The training workshop is set in March. Reynaldo’s team must first craft a training module for approval by Labella before starting the training.

The venue of the training, however, is still to be finalized, Reynaldo said.
