Cepca prexy introduces changes and policies

NEWLY ELECTED Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) president Engineer Jerry Maratas plans a more aggressive stance this year as he introduced several innovative changes in the policies and programs.
During Friday’s Cepca first meeting for the year held at Lola Saling’s Grill and Seafood Restaurant in brgy. Casuntingan, Mandaue City, Maratas introduced new proposals to the group’s by-laws, including Cepca’s goal to stage more tournaments this year.
The scheduled tournaments set for this month will be ushered in by the Cepca monthly tournament for January, on Jan. 26 at the Handuraw Pizza in Gorordo Avenue.
The organization is also planning a tilt for Cepca members versus Cebu City Hall employees, which they want to hold at the Plaza Independencia, although Maratas and the rest of Cepca’s officers have yet to submit their proposal to Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama. If this pushes through, the tournament will be held this February.
The first major tournament that Cepca will organize will be this May and is dubbed the Cebu City Chess Open. This will be followed by Cepca’s next major tourney, which is set for this October and called the 24th Cepca Anniversary Open Tournament.
Also in the calendar is the chess tournament for kids tentatively set this April during the summer break of students from their schools.
