AMATEUR bantamweight prospect Dominique Basa of Sultan Kudarat scored an impressive second-round technical knockout victory over Team Mandaue’s Jimboy Marava Sunday night in the ALA Boxing Fitness Amateur Boxing at the Gaisano Countrymall car park in Barangay Banilad, Cebu city.

After a toe-to-toe battle in the opening round, Basa rocked Marava with a powerful hook to the head then followed it up with a flurry of unanswered punches forcing the referee to halt the bout in the final minute of the second round.

Meanwhile, Dominique Casanares of Pit-os National High School stopped Jess Taves of Consolacion in the first round of their 52kgs. battle while Marava’s teammate Junriel Mobe scored a TKO win over Lapu-Lapu City’s Mark Panganan in the 40kgs. division.

Two other Mandaue City boxers suffered unanimous-decision defeats as Ken Albert Bellita bowed to Cabancalan’s Jake Mendez and Arcen Canete lost to Dariel Diamante in their 50kgs bout.

Other winners were: Patrick Gantuangco of Cabancalan who dumped teammate Jomar Caspe via split decision (under-50 kgs.), minimumweight Clark Sanchez of Toledo who won by points over Dennis Balateria of Cabancalan and University of the Visayas bet Jhon Vega who scored a unanimous-decision win over JJ Juntong of Phil-Aust Boxing Club.

After the explosive amateur bouts, ALA Boxing stars “Prince” Albert Pagara, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and Kevin Jake Cataraja wowed the packed crowd with a public sparring.

The three will headline “Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future” on Feb. 27 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
