UV still unbeaten in Talisay

THE University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers kept on rolling as they blew past the J. Espina-Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats, 87-77, in the 1st Capt. Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball League on Thursday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Four players scored in double-figures for last year’s Cesafi runner-up as they continued their build-up for the various collegiate competitions this year.

High-flying wingman Rey Suerte, nicknamed “The Flying Carpet,” was as good as advertised as he led the team with 18 points.

Former Philippine Youth Team member Leonard Santillan pitched in 14 of his own even as Jun “The Hitman” Manzo, the team’s revelation in last year’s finals, had 11. Big man Michael Macion added 10 as the Green Lancers pushed their win-loss record to an immaculate 3-0.

Undersized power forward Joshua dela Cerna busted out for 30 points in the loss. Allan Dimco had 13 while Karl Lucena chipped in 10.

The tournament is made possible through the efforts of Bulacao barangay captain Raul Cabanero along with councilors Banjo Abastillas, Darwin Cabanero and Agnes Lastimosa. The league is also being backed by the Bulacao barangay council and the Sangguniang Kabataan task force.
