A ROBBERY suspect was found dead inside the cell of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office early this morning.
Dante Ruizo, a 38-year-old resident of Camella Homes in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City died after being mauled by bystanders the day before.
PO1 Zenaido Pastorfide said Ruizo was accused of robbing a house and pointing a knife at the homeowner, 55-year-old Ma. Luisa dela Pedra, who was with her children when she shouted for help.
Ruizo ran outside but was caught by bystanders who mauled him before police arrived.
He spent the night at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s mini-cell but was spotted by PO1 Nonie Cabatingan breathing heavily the next morning.
Ruizo collapsed and he was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he reportedly was declared dead on arrival.
Ruizo sustained contusions on his forehead and left eye.
