THE Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) encourages the public to get their dogs vaccinated for possible rabies infection which is common during hotter days.
“We have to vaccinate our dogs. Just like babies, dogs need immunization too,” said Dr. Sophia Mancao, assistant regional director of DOH 7 during the AGIO forum on Tuesday.
Records of the Provincial Health Office show that there were eight human deaths from rabies last year compared to only three in 2014.
Rabies symptoms can be headache and fever, pain, delirium and paralysis, muscle spasms and hydrophobia.
Dr. Ana Marie Migriño, regional rabies coordinator of the Department of Agriculture, said the agency has 40,000 anti-rabies vials available for use.
