FISHERMEN associations from the 16 municipalities hardest hit by typhoon Yolanda in 2013 finally saw the fulfillment of their dreams.
After strong winds and storm surges battered their homes and fishing boats, they are back to fishing.
The office of the Provincial Agriculturist turned over 50 pumpboats to various fishermen organizations in Bantayan, Sta. Fe, Madridejos, Pilar, San Francisco, Tudela, Poro, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Bogo City, San Remigio, Tabuelan, Borbon, Sogod, Tuburan and Tabogon.
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III did a ceremonial test drive of the sea vessel, together with the Naval Central Commnand.
The pumpboats, powered by 16 horsepower diesel engine, cost P17,000 each including fish nets.
Davide thanked the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) for funding this livelihood project.
Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Roldan Saragena said the PCSO allocated 50 percent of its charity fund from on-line lottery games in Dec. 19, 2013 for Cebu Province to assist areas hit by typhoon Yolanda.
PCSO general manager Jose Ferdinand Roxas and Governor Davide signed an agreement for the project.
The pumpboats will be used on rotation basis among the members of the association.
Provincial Agriculturist Office Fisheries Division head Aileen Cielo reminded the beneficiaries to take care of the boats.
“This is your livelihood and food security, tantamount to Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon,” Cielo said in closing. /PR
