Batch 2000 pockets first victory in Cecaba

AFTER four failed attempts, Batch 2000 finally got the job done when it defeated CEC-C/ATS Aljhune Tinsmith /NST Rubbers, 81-77, for its first win in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday at the CEC Gym.

Starting the tournament with four straight defeats, Batch 2000 drew 31 points from Bryan Lo, who was ably backed by Lorenz Azzaraga and Barry Climaco.

Azzaraga finished with 15 points, while Climaco added 14 markers and 11 rebounds.

Joseph Aljhune Areja topped CEC-C with 18 points. Mar Genesis Quisagan scored 14 points, John Palanca Avalon chipped in 13 and Robert Fabian donated 10 for CEC-C, which succumbed to its fifth defeat with only one win to show.

In the other game, CEC-E claimed sole possession of second place in the team standings following a close 67-63 win over Batch 2009.

Cedric Chua, Norman Lopez, Bryan Labus and Edison Uy also scored in double figures to lead CEC’s fifth win in six games that put them behind defending champions Batch 1999/Southchoice Inc. which is 5-0 (win-loss).

Harold James Tan put up 25 points, Joseph Baluyos had an all-around game with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists but Batch 2009 still suffered its fourth defeat in five games.
