THE five-year-old girl who survived being stabbed with broken glass by her mother is now under the custody of the Mandaue City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS).

The Mandaue City Police’s Women and Children’s Desk brought the child to the CSWS after she was discharged from the hospital last Sunday evening. The CSWS is also considering to file charges against the mother.

The child was with her 29-year-old mother Merlynn Abao during a 4 a.m. Mass at the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City last Sunday when she screamed and attacked her daughter.

Social worker Tureza Tabuac said they will consider turning over the child to her relatives.

In the meantime, she will stay at their office while her mother undergoes mental assessment.
