CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III  appealed to the private sector to help provide the material needs of more than 2,000 families that lost their homes to a fire in Mandaue City last Saturday.

Davide walked through the Cebu International Convention Center grounds which was temporarily occupied by the fire victims on Monday morning.

“If there are businesses and private groups that can help I am encouraging and asking them to help provide the necessities here,” he said. Davide was accompanied by Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale who was at the site last Sunday and other Capitol officials.

The governor said the fire victims can stay on the CICC grounds while the Mandaue City government re-blocks the fire site in barangays Guizo and Mantuyong.

Davide said since the Mandaue City government are preparing for the “long haul”, they may need assistance in caring for the victims.
