The Durano-led political party Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) officially confirmed their support to Sen. Grace Poe and her running mate Sen. Chiz Escudero Thursday morning.

Danao Vice Mayor Ramon “Red” Durano VI, Bakud president, said the decision was reached after a series of consultations with their allies in Cebu’s 5th district.

He admitted that they were constrained from making an earlier announcement of their choice because of the pending disqualification case against Poe. Danao Mayor Nito Durano said Bakud made a commitment to especially support Poe when he allowed his son, Rep. Ace Durano of Cebu’s 5th district, to be her campaign manager.

Shortly after the Supreme Court ruled to allow Poe to pursue the country’s presidency, Bakud members met on March 15 to pass a party resolution to formally express their support for Poe and Escudero’s candidacies.

Their resolution stated that the Poe and Escudero tandem “embodies the ideals and principles of the party” and they are the most capable to address the country’s problems and ensure capability building with their growth inclusive platform.

Adano Roble, Bakud Secretary General, read the Bakud resolution in a press conference held in Danao City on Thursday morning.

“It is the general principle of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) to uphold moral ascendancy, sincerity, clean and honest governance among its membership and alliances,” Roble said.
