A DAUNTING task awaits Rodel Wenceslao, the hard-hitting Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super lightweight champion, as he is set to fight in enemy’s territory.
Wenceslao, a stalwart of the Mandaue City-based Joeric Boxing Team, will be fighting Wang Kun on April 11 in Xiangzhu, China.
The 22-year-old Wenceslao has been training for the 10-rounder fight for two months now, said trainer Mike Edcel Tuñacao.
Wenceslao, a native of Leyte, was initially tapped to fight in the undercard of the April 23WBO world super bantamweight showdown between Nonito Donaire Jr. and Zsolt Bedak at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
But negotiations between Joeric Boxing Team and ALA Promotions International fell through, prompting Wenceslao’s handlers to look for another opponent.
“It’s a big opportunity for us to fight abroad so we grabbed it and I think he (Wenceslao) is very ready for it,” Tuñacao told Cebu Daily News.
