A 19-year-old college student and a 9-year-old boy drowned on Good Friday and Black Saturday respectively.

On Friday, Fyrus Salimbulong drowned when when he jumped off a bridge in Sitio Suba, Barangay Poblacion, Liloan, northern Cebu.

Salimbulong, who was a Mandaue City resident and a third year college student, was swimming with her sister and another friend near the bridge when he suddenly left her sister and friend, headed for the bridge, and dived from there.

PO3 Jason Gayo, desk officer of Liloan Police, said the bridge was only 10 feet high above the water, but a strong current is expected in the water below the bridge because it is at the mouth of the river where it meets the sea.

Salimbulong was rushed to the hospital after he was rescued near the bridge, but he didn’t reach the hospital alive.

On Black Saturday in Sitio Tabunok, Barangay Poblacion, San Remigio town, northern Cebu, Noel Calipay, 9, was with his family enjoying the sea near a vacant lot.

Calipay was playing at the beach while his mother watched him. His mother, however, got distracted when she had to take care of her grandchildren.

When she looked at the area where Calipay was, she saw his lifeless body a few meters from the beach.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, but he did not reach the hospital alive.
