THE fourth Halad Ni Leon Kilat Marathon kicks off tonight with 235 long distance runners set to answer the starting gun at 8 p.m.

The race will start at the Mancao ancestral house in Carcar City, southern Cebu and will end at the Yap-Sandiego ancestral house in downtown Cebu City.

The grueling 42-kilometer marathon is part of the commemoration of Cebuano revolutionary leader Pantallon Villegas also known as Leon Kilat, who fought the Spanish colonizers during his time.  The race is also in line with the annual commemoration of the “Battle of Tres De Abril ” where Leon Kilat led the Cebuano revolutionaries against the Spaniard colonizers.

The event will have an individual 42k run and a three-man relay category with a 10-hour cut-off time.

Race organizer Tony Galon said runners can finish beyond the 10-hour cut-off.  Instead of the regular race bib, runners will be sporting bandanas  as race bib in the run co-organized by Joel Garganera, Dr. Peter Mancao and Val Sandiego.
