BATCH 2009 and CEC-C/ATS Aljhune Tinsmith/NST Rubbers, two teams languishing at the bottom of the team standings, kept their flickering playoff hopes alive after they chalked up separate wins last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Batch 2009 leaned on Harold James Tan’s double-double performance to torch Team CEC-D/Dimsum Frito, while CEC-C blew out Batch 1998/Kaking, 82-67.
Tan finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Alfie Miranda Sy chipped in 14 markers for Batch 2009, which tallied just its third win in nine games.
Tournament format states that only eight of the 11 competing teams will advance to the quarterfinals after the single round elimination phase.
Tommy Yu put up 18 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, one assist and a block, Jim Paul Yankee scattered 12 markers in a losing effort as CEC-D slipped to 4-4 (win-loss).
CEC-C, on the other hand, pocketed a second victory against six defeats with Mar Genesis Quisagan leading the way with 17 points.
Rodney Co added 13 points, Jim Carl Yu contributed 13, Joseph Aljhune Areja donated 10, while John Palanca Avalon and Kevin Mamac submitted nine and eight markers, respectively.
Eric So and Rex Millan both scored 20 points, Elvis Evangelista cashed in 14 markers for Batch ’98, which tasted its fifth loss in eight matches.
