THE 7th Visayas Long Boarding Trilogy (VLT) Series will begin this Tuesday in the island of Siquijor.
Around 300 participants from more than a dozen countries will compete in the series, which serves as one of the few qualifying legs for the World International Downhill Federation to be held in the USA.
The series is a three-part event that will last until April 17, capped off by the VLT world qualifying race dubbed the 3rd Veggie Hill Downhill Race to be held in Carcar City, south Cebu starting April 13.
The first leg will be the free ride and traditional race, where the participants will go through a 14-kilometer long boarding route traversing the island’s most scenic views.
“We promote also eco-tourism with this extreme sport and we are happy that after seven years in this event, we were able to get the support of the tourism offices from the towns that we visited,” said Joseph Falcone, one of the organizers of VLT during yesterday’s press conference held at the KOA Treehouse.
He was joined by renowned Cebuano long boarder John Rex “Dandoy” Tongco, who will compete in the world qualifiers in Carcar City.
“We are very fortunate that IDF recognized VLT as one of the qualifiers for the world championships. This is the only world championship qualifiers in Asia and we are very proud for this kind of achievement, that’s why we are here promoting the event to every Cebuano so that we can gather more support at the same time share the knowledge of this sport,” added Falcone.
After the Siquijor leg, the event will head straight to Oslob town, south Cebu on April 10 to 12 for the second Super Mango Skate Clinic to be spearheaded by respected American long boarder Patrick Switzer with other veteran long boarders.
The main goal of the clinic is to teach the participants the safe and correct way of long boarding.
