CIDG seizes more than P6M worth of shabu, firearms
Police failed to arrest a suspected major drug dealer, but seized more than P6 million worth of shabu, three firearms and ammunition from his home in Sitio Tayud, Barangay Cogon Pardo in Cebu City last weekend.
Senior Supt. Marlon Tayaba, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG 7), said Jason Cabrera had fled before their operatives arrived at his residence at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.
He said Cabrera’s home is situated far from the road. By the time they reached it, someone had tipped off Cabrera, allowing him to escape.
“Kasi para siya’ng Robin Hood, so pagpasok pa lang ng mga tauhan namin sa area, meron nang nagtimbre sa kanya (Because he’s like Robin Hood. When our people entered the area, someone had already told him),” Tayaba said.
Cabrera, who is in his late 20s, is described as level 2 drug pusher who could dispose more than 200 grams of shabu in a week.
When CIDG 7 operatives arrived, the house was empty.
Tayaba said there were signs of someone’s presence in the house prior to their arrival.
He said the lights were still on and they noticed that the bathroom floor was still wet.
Inside Cabrera’s room, the police recovered 516 grams of shabu, three .38 revolvers and 10 bullets used for a 9mm pistol.
Tayaba said the half kilo of shabu has an estimated street value of P6 million.
Tayaba said they will file charges of illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs against Cabrera today, so an arrest warrant can be issued against him.
Tayaba said based on their information, Cabrera is now hiding in the northern part of Cebu.
Last Saturday’s operation was done on the strength of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Soliver Peras.
Cogon Pardo Barangay Chairman Harry Eran said the area where the raid happened is no longer part of his barangay, but already a part of Basak Pardo.
Eran said Cabrera has several friends who acted as his informants in his barangay, especially in Sitio All Season, Cogon Pardo.
