One Cebu gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia and running mate Nerissa Soon-Ruiz personally endorsed Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as their vice president last night.

Garcia and Soon-Ruiz met with Cayetano, running mate of PDP-Laban standard-bearer Rodrigo Duterte, at the One Cebu headquarters along Pope John Paul II Ave. in Cebu City last night.

“He and my brother Pablo John are good friends. I am a good friend of his father and I know what kind of person he is,” Winston told reporters after the meeting.

The endorsement came about two days after the party announced that it was supporting Duterte’s presidential bid.

However, Garcia said he has yet to discuss the endorsement with the rest of One Cebu leaders and emphasized that this was only their personal choice.

One Cebu decided to align with Duterte after weeks of speculation following its breakup with Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Cayetano, for his part, said the endorsement is an answered prayer.

“The endorsement is mutual. We also support the tandem of Winston and Nerissa,” the senator added.

Soon-Ruiz said Cayetano has been helpful in providing medical assistance for patients in the sixth district even after her last term as congresswoman.
