Recto backs Metro Cebu Dev’t Agency for Cebu

Liberal Party (LP) senatorial candidate Ralph Recto wants to push for the creation of a Metro Cebu Development Authority (MCDA) to help address Metro Cebu’s traffic woes.

In an interview at the Capitol on Thursday, Recto said Cebu needs institutions to resolve its traffic problems which have become similar to Metro Manila.

Recto said the MCDA should include local officials and private sector stakeholders. “You need to have urban planners involved. You need to visualize what the cities and province should look like. Globally, people are moving into urban centers. You have to plan that accordingly,” he said.

He said the MCDA will help address the problem of a growing population which he expects to grow by 600,000 next year.

If elected anew, Recto said he will welcome the chance to work with the local government units to realize this and lobby for its passage in the Senate.
