Davide refutes P750K refund claim

CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III belied the claims of some barangay officials in Cebu’s 3rd district that the provincial government wants a refund of the P750,000 out of the P1 million amount given to them.

“That’s absolutely false. I deny that. Nangomisyon ang Kapitolyo para ana? Para gud na sa mga barangay (Is Capitol getting a commission out of that? It’s for the barangays),” he told reporters yesterday.

A local paper (not Cebu Daily News) reported that some barangay officials claimed that the province asked them to make the refund, leaving them only with P250,000.

The report also indicated that the Capitol personnel who distributed the checks last March 21 asked them to submit reports which would have to be antedated, to make it appear that their projects were implemented before the official campaign period began.

Davide said these checks were given even before the election period since disbursement of funds for new projects is among the prohibited acts during the campaign period.
