THOUGH there are those who still root for him, there are fewer fans who are placing bets for or against Saranggani Rep. and People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao on his fight against Timothy Bradley this morning (Saturday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada).

“Di na ko mopusta kay wa nako ganahi. Katulo naman gud na nila, dili na (I won’t bet anymore because I’m not interested. It’s their third time I’m not excited),” said 33-year old Cecille Taxi driver Cris Alivio of Mohon, Talisay City.

Alivio admitted that in the previous Pacquiao fight against Floyd Mayweather, he placed a bet on Mayweather and he won P500.

He said he bet on all Pacquiao fights in the past but he won’t place a bet in today’s fight.

Alivio believed that Pacquiao will win in this fight because the People’s Champ cannot also afford to lose in the election.

“Kon mapildi siya aning awaya, mapildi sab siya sa (If he loses this fight, he loses the) election,” Alivio said.

Alberto Gino, a 36-year-old  hotel worker, has the same sentiment and he won’t place any bet for today’s fight.

“Dili na thrilling, di na gyod parehas sa una nga mag-atang ang mga tawo. Karon wa na ganiy hisgot ang mga tawo (It’s not thrilling anymore, unlike before when the people waited for it. Now the people won’t even talk about it),”  Gino said.

Gino also won P500 in the previous Pacquiao fight.

Another taxi driver, 45-year-old Noel Salvador of Minglanilla town, said it’s obvious that Pacquaio has the advantage in today’s  fight.

He said Bradley won in the first fight because of the judges’ decision despite Pacquiao’s good performance. In the second bout, Pacquiao clearly won against Bradley.

“Nahibawo na ta kinsay modaog. Wa na’y gana itan-aw (We know who will win. It’s not interesting to watch),” he said. If he has time today, Salvador will watch the fight.

There are still die-hard fans of Manny Pacquiao who placed bets on him.

A softdrink company worker named Joseph Anthony Cayanong placed a bet of  P2,500 that Pacquiao will win against Timothy Bradley.

The Cebu City police will monitor and secure all venues and establishments that will hold either pay per view or free showing of Pacquiao’s bout versus Bradley today.

Chief Insp. David Señor, operations chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said while they expect a close to, or zero crime incident today for today’s fight, altercations may still ensue due to betting.

“We will still deploy normal police personnel on the streets. But we will be fielding more police officers  for security especially on establishments which will hold pay per view,” Señor said.
