After two years on the shelves, the Cesafi Partner’s Cup will be making a return to give teams of the participating schools the opportunity to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.
Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy met with coaches and athletic directors of the league’s member schools earlier in the week and it was decided that the new season open on May 14.
The idea of staging another Partner’s Cup this year was hatched when no Cesafi school was invited to the annual FilOil Flying V Premier Cup in Manila.
In previous years, the University of the Visayas, Southwestern University, University of San Carlos and the University of San Jose-Recoletos had participated in the prestigious preseason tilt.
Unlike in previous years, the schools are currently being tasked with looking for companies to sponsor their squad.
Teams will be competing in a single round-robin elimination round with the top four advancing to yet another round-robin in the semifinals. The top two teams after the Final Four will advance to the finals.
The league is also doing away with the ”barangayan” style, which forces teams to play a different quintet in each of the first three periods.
Finally, several Bohol-based schools are being invited to participate—namely Bohol Institute of Technology and Holy Name University.
