A 38-year-old drunk man was arrested last Sunday after he tried to remove the commemorative plate in the Mandaue City Hall of the late mayor Demetrio Cortes Sr., who was the father of incumbent Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Johny Garcia was arrested after he was caught trying to remove the late mayor’s commemorative plate using a 15-inch bolo by security guards Dharlie Decierdo, Rodel Cuizon and PO3 Eduardo Cabase of the Mandaue City Police.

“Nahubog man gud ko adto nga higayuna busa nabuhat nako to nga sala (I was drunk at that time that’s why committed that act),” Garcia said.

Decierdo, who is a Barangay Banilad, Cebu City resident, was caught at 3:30 a.m.

He was brought to the Mandaue Police Station 1 where he was detained pending the filing of malicious mischief charge and illegal possession of a deadly weapon against him.
