ONE of Cebu’s top triathletes, John Philip Dueñas of the Motorace Racing Team will see action in today’s second leg of the three-leg Philippine Duathlon Series in General Trias, Cavite.

Dueñas, one of the ace racers of Motorace Racing Team and the trainer of the country’s marathon queen, Mary Joy Tabal will join the 6-kilometer run, 30k bike and 3k run event in the elite division of the race that is organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP).

Dueñas finished second last month in the 30-34 years old division of the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Philippines held in Subic Bay, Zambales clocking 4:47.12

According to Motorace Racing Team, Dueñas was supposed to join the series’ first leg this year but skipped it due to some personal reasons.

After this race, Dueñas will be flying to Thailand to further hone his triathlon skills. He is planning to join the remaining legs of the Philippine Duathlon Series this year.

Four other Cebuano triathletes will join Dueñas in Cavite including Mandaue City’s Joland Olmilla who is eyeing a top three finish after coming in 10th in last February’s opening leg in Nuvali, Laguna.

Also looking to better his placing is Chobie Dueñas who was the best Cebuano finisher in the inaugural leg by finishing sixth overall.

In the distaff side, the redemption-seeking Miscelle Gilbuena of Bantayan, Cebu tries to get back on the winning track against the likes of Mirasol Abad and Jelsie Sabado as she heads the cast in the women’s division.

The other Cebuana in the cast is Elona Louise Villacin.
