MCIA: Cebu’s newest travel and lifestyle hub

T2- retail area

IN a bid to make Mactan-Cebu International Airport as a lifestyle destination in Cebu, private operator GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corp., (GMCAC) will pour investments on more commercial and retail projects within the airport complex.

Alongside the construction of the airport’s New Passenger Terminal Building or Terminal 2, slated for completion by Summer 2018, a 230-meter commercial strip will open at the Arrivals Road and an “Airport Village” will open offering an array of food and beverage (F&B) and retail choices that caters to the taste and aspirations of guests and passengers both local and foreign.

GMCAC is also looking at the possibility of partnering with mall and hotel operators in order to complete the offering of MCIA as a travel and lifestyle destination in Cebu.

“The F&B and retail segments in the airport play a significant role in the airport’s brand image, which is firmly tied to Cebu’s global reputation as a resort destination,” said GMCAC President Louie Ferrer.

“We want the MCIA to become a leisurely experience for visitors and especially for passengers where they look forward to coming to the airport earlier from their flight because there are activities to do around here,” added GMCAC Chief Executive Advisor Andrew Harrison.

The Terminal 2, located right beside the existing terminal, will span approximately 45,000 square meters, which will be expanded further in phase 2.

Its architectural features blends modern building materials and Cebuano culture and heritage.

The MCIA is envisioned to become the world’s friendliest airport gateway that demonstrates the warmth and hospitality of the Cebuano people. It will be an airport that will make guests feel that their resort experience has started the moment they set foot in here.

GMR Megawide is a partnership between local firm Megawide Construction Corp. and Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure Ltd.

GMCAC won the contract to expand and modernize Mactan-Cebu airport after offering a P14.4-billion premium. It officially took over operations of the airport last November 1, 2014./PR
