A celebration for passing the board exam turned into a tragedy last Saturday after the 23-year-old engineering board passer from Talisay City drowned in the waterfalls of Sitio Hilog, Barangay Looc in Ginatilan town in southwestern Cebu.

Local divers found the body of Francis Neil Ibis after searching for six hours since Ibis was missing at Kabutngan Falls, said PO3 Ruben Catubig of the Ginatilan police.

Catubig said Ibis and 16 other companions were celebrating the victim’s birthday and for his passing the engineering board exams at the Kabutngan Falls.

But at 4 p.m., Ibis friends noticed that he was missing and sought help. Ibis body was found at 10 p.m. 10 meters below the surface of the water below the waterfalls.

Catubig said that the friends were on the the fourth level of the falls which is considered a dangerous.

Catubig said initial investigation showed that there was no foul play in the death of Ibis.
