REP. Martin Romualdez of Leyte’s first district yesterday vowed to continue fighting for persons with disabilities (PWDs) whom he said should be given extra attention.

In a press conference at the White Gold House in Cebu City, he said House Bill No. 1039, a proposed law exempting PWDs from paying value-added tax on certain goods and services, was signed into law last March and is about to be implemented.

“We’re just waiting for its implementing rule,” he said.

Romualdez authored House Bill No. 1039 which is now known as Republic Act 10754 or the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities.

The law exempts PWDs from the value-added tax (VAT) just like senior citizens. The legislator visited Cebu yesterday to request PWDs in Cebu City to support his senatorial bid.
