A 71-year-old British national posted bail yesterday after about two days in detention.
Barry Wolff, a resident of Camella Homes Montserrat Subdivision in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City for 10 years now, was arrested Sunday for allegedly beating his Singaporean neighbor in the head with a wrench.
Wolff obtained temporary freedom after his son Andrew Wolff, an actor turned businessman, arrived from Manila and posted bail.
The older Wolff was accused of hitting his neighbor, Singaporean national Ratnakumar Siva, 56, with a wrench in the forehead as Siva got out of his car after being stopped by Wolff past 1 p.m. last Saturday. Siva fought back and a scuffle ensued.
Siva’s friend, who was seated at the back of the car, also got out of the car and pacified the two. He later called the police.
In an interview at the Tourist Police office yesterday afternoon, Wolff alleged that Siva had started their altercation when he almost hit him with his car.
He said a friend of Siva also allegedly punched him causing scratches and bruises to his body.
Siva filed attempted homicide charges against Wolff, who is planning to file counter charges against Siva and his friend.
Wolff was not immediately detained after his arrest.
Siva said he learned that Wolff requested a doctor at the Lapu-Lapu City hospital on Saturday afternoon to allow his admission for hypertension.
Wolff was then taken to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
But Siva complained to the police, saying the doctor did not grant Wolff’s request.
SPO2 Isnang Sarrapudin, chief clerk of Tourist Police, said they misunderstood the doctor’s medical report.
Wolff was then brought to the Tourist Police office, but was placed in detention only after Siva questioned the police on Sunday evening for allegedly giving Wolff a special treatment.
Sarrapudin said they were just waiting for the medical certification.
Siva, however, insisted that there was already a medical certification and all the needed documents for detention were already complete.
Sarrapudin then ordered his men to place Wolff inside the detention cell.
