Following the concession of One Cebu gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III vowed to do his best to gain the trust of his rival’s supporters.

“I saw in the papers this morning that my opponent has conceded defeat and I thank him for conceding,” Davide said in a press conference at the Capitol Wednesday morning.

He said he joins Garcia’s call for everyone to unite under his governorship and that he will “do his best to gain the trust and confidence from supporters of Garcia.” “After all, this is for Cebu,” Davide said.

Garcia made the concession on his Facebook page at past 5 p.m. on Tuesday, even with election returns from the towns of Cordova, Santander, and Malabuyoc still being awaited by the Provincial Board of Election Canvassers (PBC).

As of 7 p.m. on the same day, Davide already garnered 594,273 votes compared to Garcia’s 578,912. Davide said his camp expected a wider margin, but that his lead was a victory to all of them nonetheless.

The incumbent governor also thanked his supporters and sympathizers, campaign staff, his wife and children, parents and in-laws, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and all local candidates in this year’s elections.

Until the PBC receives election returns from the remaining three towns, it will not proclaim Davide as governor.
