THE WORTHY-UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers gun for the solo lead in the standings when they tangle with the Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup today at the Cebu Coliseum.
At 2-0 (win-loss), UV is looking every bit the legitimate contender that they are in spite of the key losses to personnel headed by Jun Manzo and Leonard Santillan, who recently bolted for the greener pastures of the University of the Philippines.
With those two gone, the Green Lancers have found success doing it by committee with the promising play of Rey Suerte, Sheldon Gahi and new import, Bassiere Sackour.
UV is raring to pounce on a USJ-R squad that suffered a heartbreaking 68-71 loss to the Phinma-Southwestern University Cobras last time-out, a loss that dropped the Jaguars to an even 1-1 card.
In that game, the Jaguars led by as many as 16 before crumbling down the stretch.
In the curtain-raiser, the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) looks to improve on its 1-1 card when it battles the Highlands Corned Beef-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.
