Students of the Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS) came with their parents to join the annual Brigada Eskwela, a week-long event where they clean up the classrooms for the June 13 opening of classes.
This year’s theme is “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School”.
“This is also a way of informing everybody that the Department of Education (DepEd) is ready to fully implement the K-12,” Dr. Ardin Monisit, spokesman of the Department of Education (DepED) Mandaue City Division said.
Benjamin Tiongzon, program supervisor of DepEd Mandaue said the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Yakult, Philippine National Police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) joined the event.
“The spirit of volunteerism is seen in every people in the community most especially people living near the school”, Tiongzon said.
Maryan Abella of barangay Tingub, Mandaue City said she volunteered for the activity since her child is in Grade 7. Incoming Grade 11 student Kim Vincent Pintor said it is his way of giving back to his Alma Mater.
“Every year it’s a good feeling to join in the school cleanup,” Pintor said. Arlina Yap Amante, school principal of MCCNHS said they are positive they can service the 4,000 students for the incoming school year.
Amante said they have triple shifting of classes from 6 am to noon, 12:30 PM to 6:30 pm and night classes.
There are 58 students in MCCNHS who are among the fire victims in three sitios of barangays Guizo and Mantuyong. Amante said donations of used clothings and rice were given to them.
