Bets urged to file SOCE before June 8 deadline
NINE days before its deadline and the end of the election period on June 8, Acting Comelec Cebu Provincial Supervisor Eliseo Labaria continues to remind candidates even those who have lost to file their statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) in Cebu province.
As for those who won and have been reelected, Labaria warned that they cannot sit nor can they take their oath of office if they cannot submit their SOCE.
PB member Alex Binghay of Cebu’s third district was the first to submit his SOCE last May 26.
He, however, withdrew his SOCE yesterday pending his review of it.
Under Republic Act 7166 or An Act Providing for Synchronized National and Local Elections and for Electoral Reforms, it still requires candidates except for candidates running for barangay posts to file their SOCEs 30 days after the election.
Those who failed to file their SOCEs for the first time and depending on the elective post they had run for, must pay an administrative fine ranging from P1,000 to P30,000 and for the second offense, from P2,000 to P60,000.
Each candidate only has an allowable expenses for local candidates which is P3 for every voter and P5 for every voter for those who do not belong to any political party.
Labaria said the last activity for Comelec is the filing of SOCE as the election period will also end at midnight on June 8.
After this, Labaria said he will go back to his original post in Bohol as its Provincial Election Supervisor.
Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano will be back in Cebu province.
The Comelec gun ban will also end on that date.
