Action in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup heats up as the four remaining teams start their trek to the tournament’s peak in the semifinals, which commences with a double-header today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Worthy-University of the Visayas (UV) kicks things off with a match against the Highlands Corned Beef-University of Cebu (UC) at 5 p.m. while the Phinma-Southwestern University (SWU) have their mettle tested when they face off against the Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).

The semifinals will be a single round-robin affair with the top two teams at the end advancing to the best-of-three championship series.

UV has been perfect so far, piling up one win after another, including one over UC, 78-68, the other night to complete a 6-0 stint in the elimination round.

The Green Lancers will once again lean on their veteran backcourt of Rey Suerte and Josue Segumpan along with their bruising frontcourt of Mike Macion and Monic Soliva.

UC, though, will try to put a stop to UV’s winning run with their capable roster led by talented rookie Geleant Delator and athletic forward JR Puerto.

In the other semis pairing, the Cobras will try to repeat their thrilling 71-68 win over the Jaguars, one that saw SWU come all the way back from a 16-point deficit in the second half. The Jaguars will also be seeing a familiar face standing opposite them as 6-foot-11 Quintin Nzusi, their former import, is now playing for the Cobras.
