Mandaue City Jail launches anti-drug campaign

The Mandaue City Jail launched yesterday an anti-drug campaign.

Chief Insp. Gil Inopia, jail warden, said they initiated this activity after receiving a memorandum from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Central Office to conduct an anti-drug campaign in jail facilities to fully rehabilitate the prisoners, especially the illegal drug users.

The memorandum is in line with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s pronouncement to curb crimes and illegal drugs in the country.

Mandaue City Jail has 1,300 inmates, 800 of whom were arrested for drug law violations.

“We hope that with the administration of the newly elected President, drug cases would slow down and inmates in jail facilities would be fully rehabilitated,” said Inopia.

With the help of non-government organizations like the Family and Recovery Management (FARM) and Narcotics Anonymous, an international drug rehabilitation institution represented by Allain Aliño, Inopia launched the program, dubbed as “Support all the way drug free Mandaue City Jail Facility.”

Wardley Getalla, deputy regional director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 7), attended the event and gave his inspirational talk.

“I commend Chief Inspector Inopia for initiating this program, rest assured that we would also do our best help you including the regular conduct of greyhound operations,” said Getalla.

Atty. Paul Clarence Oaminal, former Dangerous Drugs Board undersectary, also shared his views of the program.

“Kinahanglan gyud nga magbag-o na gyud mo kay aron inig gawas ninyo sigurado nga buhi ra gihapon mo kay dili na man mo mangita og drugas, kay kon moapil gihapon mo sa drogas, maapil unya mo sa mapatay,” (You should reform so that when you get out of here, for sure, you are still alive as you would no longer find drugs, or if you do, you might be included in the killing),” Oaminal said.
