Cebu volleyball making strong impact nationally

By: John Carlo Villaruel June 24,2016 - 10:06 PM

THE QUEEN City of the South has been a breeding ground of top caliber spikers who have made a huge impact in the Philippine volleyball scene.

And former Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras Rapril Aguilar thinks Cebu will continue to produce future stars in volleyball with the way the trend is going.

Aguilar, who will be suiting up for the Cignal HD Spikers in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference, said Cebu volleyball has certainly made a huge breakthrough when it comes to talent and training compared to their time.

“Cebu volleyball has improved in terms of coverage and competency,” the 26-year-old Aguilar said. “You can see Cebuanos compete not just inside Cebu, not just in Visayas, but also in other regions like Metro Manila. The players are also very versatile that they can be converted to other positions when the need arises.”

Aguilar, who joins forces with fellow Cebuana and former SWU teammate Marlyn Llagoso in Cignal, said the future of Cebu volleyball players will hinge on the effort of both the players and coaches.

“With good support and training, Cebu players can potentially compete internationally,” Aguilar said.

Meanwhile, Llagoso said she is still adjusting to the atmosphere of playing volleyball professionally.

“I realized that my college coaches were right when they sad we had to work really hard in order to be able to adjust well in tournaments such as this,” Llagoso said.

Both Llagoso and Aguilar hope to make a huge impact for Cignal HD today in their game against RC Cola Army Lady Troopers. They are shooting for their first win after losing to F2 Logistics in their opening game last Saturday.
