BRILLIANT Metal Craft and Machine Designs has invented a machine system that could possibly revolutionize the hospital and medical care industry. Crafted purely out of Filipino ingenuity, the entire team of innovators headed by Dr. Edward Dampor Sr., D.T.E., the president of BMC, alongside his son Jason James Dampor, the general manager, have come up with the idea of creating a Medical Grade Oxygen Generator.

The idea was hatched out of pure concern for the quality of oxygen that patients receive in hospitals, seeing that the metal tanks used to store oxygen would decay when used for long durations of time. Apparently, oxidation of the metals oxygen containers would eventually result into the build up of rust in which, has been reported in past cases, would enter into the lungs of the recipient, causing harm to internal organs not to mention possible infection of Tetanus. Other than that, it turns out that patients don’t even need the 99% to 100% of the oxygen stored in these tanks, but only need up to 97%, Dr. Eli Bellarmino, the Medical Director of Visayas Community Medical Center, the first ever hospital in Cebu to ever be equipped with the Medical Grade Oxygen Generator, emphasized that receiving 99% or more oxygen is detrimental to the health. This could burn mucosa, the lining of the respiratory tract, the eyes, the lungs, and the intestines, thus adding more harm to the patient. This piece of breakthrough knowledge has already been covered by the invention and can be calibrated to better suit the patients’ oxygen needs.

The oxygen coming from the Medical Grade Oxygen Generator is the end product of natural air being pumped into the machine and filtered seven times, a process which is not normally done when producing oxygen, this is all made possible without any chemical bond or chemical reaction, it simply filters the air. Furthermore, on transporting the oxygen to the patients, a system of pipelines exists throughout the hospital that lead from the generator to the individual rooms. It directly provides oxygen from the source to the recipient without the use of bulky metal tanks. Labor-wise, this could save much time and energy for the staff since transportation is no longer needed and exerted to carrying bulky metal tanks. If ever errors would occur, a Medical Gas Control Unit will automatically identify if something is wrong and will back up on the system.

This project has been on going for 12 years already and is slowly spreading to different parts of the country. The company is also in the hopes of processing it into a law, that all hospitals in Cebu should have a Medical Grade Oxygen Generator. Last April 29, the team from BMC went to Silliman University to announce to the public the existence of their invention.
