Uber offers cash payment option for Cebu City commuters
MORE Cebuanos can now avail of ride-sharing app Uber’s services as it announced the roll out of its cash payment option in Cebu City on Thursday.
Starting July 8, Friday, cash payments will be made available to Cebuano riders, making Cebu the first city in the Philippines to offer this option.
“We hope the introduction of new payment options, like cash, will give riders more choices to enjoy and pay for their Uber rides,” Uber Philippines General Manager Laurence Cua said.
Since its launch in San Francisco, USA in 2010, Uber is known for adopting a cashless scheme in which riders pay using their credit or debit cards, sparing them from asking for change once they arrive at their destinations.
EJ dela Vega, Uber Cebu City lead, said the Philippine economy is growing fast but credit card penetration is only at 2 percent. He said the move to add another payment option aims to attract more Uber users in Cebu City.
