SPO1 Adonis Dumpit laughed at reports posted on social media that he died in an ambush early yesterday morning.
“Pasagdi lang na sila. Basta buhi ko (Let them be so long as I’m alive),” he said.
Dumpit said he was no longer interested in finding out who spread rumors on his alleged death.
Reports on Dumpit’s alleged ambush started to spread yesterday morning.
A netizen even posted on Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s Facebook page to ask if the rumors were true.
“Mayor, is Dumpit dead? I just heard it from our neighbors. I just want a confirmation. I hope it’s not true. Thanks,” a post made by Luchie Duero Otar appeared on the mayor’s Facebook page at past noontime.
SPO1 Dumpit told Cebu Daily News that he was unharmed. “Dili na tinuod, uy (The ambush report is not true),” he said laughing.
Dumpit said he was in his Tejero home at 7:30 a.m. when talks of his reported ambush started to spread.
He received a call from a reporter asking if reports on his alleged ambush were true.
“Ibalita intawn ninyo nga buhi pa ko (Please report to your readers that I am still alive),” Dumpit said in a 2 p.m. interview from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Dumpit was released recently after Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña posted a P250,000 bail on his behalf while his homicide case is on appeal.
The Court of Appeals granted his petition for bail also last May.
He was convicted in August 2014 for shooting dead a 17-year-old robbery suspect more than a decade ago.
Toledo City John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña said he is considering to ask Mayor Osmeña if he can “borrow” Dumpit to augment his campaign against illegal drugs.
