CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he plans to lease five dump trucks to augment his administration’s garbage collection efforts.
He said the dump trucks will be leased 24/7 and the supplier would provide the driver and pay for the maintenance.
Osmeña said this setup is advantageous to the city since it will cut down on maintenance fees.
“What’s the advantage to the city? The paperwork is done. We don’t have to order the water pump and the spark plug and the water hose. That’s their problem. We don’t even need mechanics. We don’t even need parking space. The important thing is that they have one truck for 12 hours,” Osmeña said.
He said this will prevent politicking from opposition critics.
“Many of the barangays who are not identified with us are simply, deliberately slowing down so that they could pass the blame on us,” Osmeña said.
“I am 100 percent sure that if the truck does not show up, they will scream and make noise. But they cannot connive with the Department of Public Services,” Osmeña added.
When asked when he plans on implementing this, the mayor said he wants to lease the trucks as soon as possible.
Osmeña said the re-opened Inayawan landfill helped cut down on P250,000 worth of daily tipping fees to the city.
The mayor said the city government also spends less on maintenance fees as trucks from the south can make make three round trips daily while trucks from the north can make two round trips./Ateneo de Manila University Intern Maria Lelaina R. Cardeño
