Milan Melindo’s third world title fight in the works

AFTER two failed attempts, Milan Melindo of the ALA Boxing Gym may just get another chance of finally winning a world title.

Negotiations are underway that will have Melindo (34-2,12KOs) taking on Japanese IBF Junior Flyweight world champion Akira Yaegashi (24-5-0, 12KOs).

There is no exact schedule yet for the world title fight as the ALA Promotions International and Yaegashi’s promoters have yet to start the negotiations.

The development came after ALA Promotions CEO/President Michael P. Aldeguer received a response from the IBF approving his request to make the title fight happen, according to reports from Philboxing.com.

ALA Promotions and Yaegashi’s camp were given until August 6 to complete the negotiation. If the two camps fail to come up with an agreement, the fight will go to a purse bid.

Melindo’s was supposed to face former tormentor Javier Mendoza of Mexico last May 28 but the rematch was canceled after the latter got injured while training.

Melindo was defeated by Mendoza via decision last year in Mexico.

The fight was supposed to be a title eliminator for Yaegashi’s title.

After Mendoza backed out, Melindo faced last-minute replacement Maximino Flores of Mexico and scored a technical knockout decision win in the seventh round. Melindo’s first world title bout was on 2013 when he fought WBO and WBA world flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada. He lost by unanimous decision./WITH REPORTS FROM PHILBOXING.COM
